Contacts are the foundation of Cleo. Every person you work with — decision-makers, influencers, day-to-day contacts — lives here.

## Importing Contacts

The fastest way to get started is a CSV import:

1. Go to **CRM > Contacts** in your account
2. Click **Import** in the top right
3. Upload your CSV file
4. Map the columns to Cleo fields (email, name, phone, company)
5. Review the preview and confirm

Cleo deduplicates by email address, so you won't get duplicates on re-import.

## Contact Fields

Every contact has standard fields (name, email, phone, address) plus custom fields you define. Custom fields let you track anything — industry, company size, contract value, preferred contact method.

## Segments & Lists

Use **Smart Lists** to group contacts dynamically. A smart list is a saved filter — "all contacts in the US with deal value > $10k" — that updates automatically as contacts change.

Static lists are manual. Drag contacts in, or add them from the contact detail page.

## Assignment

Assign contacts to team members to control who sees what. Users with the `contacts.read.unassigned` permission see all contacts; others only see their assigned ones.
